Payagraj, India – The grand Mahakumbh Mela 2025, renowned as the largest human gathering on the planet, commenced on January 13 with the sacred 'Shahi Snan' (royal bath) on the occasion of Paush Purnima. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath revealed that over 1.5 crore (15 million) devotees performed the holy ritual at the Sangam—the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati rivers.


This 45-day-long spiritual festivity is expected to attract over 40 crore (400 million) attendees, making it an event of unparalleled cultural significance. The Mahakumbh will conclude on February 26, 2025, with major bathing rituals planned on Makar Sankranti (January 14), Mauni Amavasya (January 29), and Basant Panchami (February 3).
