Rescue Operations Underway in Assam's Dima Hasao as Flooded Coal Mine Traps Workers

In a tragic incident in Assam's Dima Hasao district, several workers have been trapped for more than 12 hours after a coal mine was flooded. The accident, which occurred on Monday morning, has sparked intense rescue operations, with officials racing against time to save the workers from the flooded mine.

According to Mayank Kumar, the Superintendent of Police in Dima Hasao, the exact number of workers trapped is currently "unspecified," though local sources suggest the number could be more than ten. The incident took place at a coal mine located in the remote Kalamati area, near Umrangso, around 150 kilometers from the district headquarters in Haflong.

The district authorities, including the District Collector and senior government officials, were reportedly on their way to the site but had not yet arrived by 8:30 p.m. The rescue teams, however, have been actively working at the site for over seven hours to pull the workers out from the dangerous conditions of the flooded mine.

As the flooding in the mine area has posed significant challenges, the situation remains critical, with rescue operations in full swing to reach the trapped miners. The ongoing efforts highlight the urgency of emergency response in Dima Hasao, where the mine accident has left local authorities scrambling to contain the crisis.
